**Renaming custom variables**

To rename custom variables go to the CRM and click Custom variables

A popup will open where you can rename 20 custom variables

Please note that names of Custom Variables must contain only letters and numbers. Spaces or special characters are not allowed and will be removed automatically.

If you decide to rename them again for example Video > Videos, Video variable will not work anymore.

In any case, the default Custom\_1, Custom\_2 variables will work if you use them in any of your previous campaigns.

#### **Inserting variables into the campaign**

Like Standard variables, Custom variables are available under the Personalize menu in the campaign builder

**Entering Fallback Text**

What if you do not have information about all the prospects? In that case, you can use fallback text.
This text acts as a default text that your prospect will see, if custom variables are not populated for them.

Use this syntax: **{{Custom Variable | default: “fallbacktext”}}**
Example,
Let’s assume the custom variable name is **ProjectName** and for a certain prospect does not have the data for it. In that case, you can use the custom tag like this:
**{{ProjectName | default: “Project”}}**
